About the event

🍄✨ Whimsical Fungi Costume Making Workshop: Transform with Sustainable Style! ✨🍄

On Sunday 14th April we invite you all to come along to our big community festival day (10am-3pm). We'd love for you to dress up as mushrooms or fungi for this unique and exciting event so our team are here to give you a hand!

Embark on a magical journey into the heart of creativity with our Fungi Costume Workshop, where sustainable fashion meets whimsical charm! Join us for an enchanting experience of crafting your own fungi-inspired costume using upcycled fabrics, turning discarded treasures into fantastical wearables.

What to Expect:

  • Eco-Friendly Fashion: Dive into the world of sustainable style as our skilled instructors guide you through the art of transforming old fabrics into imaginative fungi costumes. Embrace the beauty of upcycling and create a one-of-a-kind ensemble that stands out in any crowd.
  • Express Your Fungi Fantasy: Unleash your creativity by designing and crafting a costume that embodies the magical allure of mushrooms. From mushroom caps to mycelium skirts, the possibilities are endless. Let your imagination run wild and bring your fungi fantasy to life!
  • Suitable for Ages 8+: This workshop is the perfect family-friendly activity - we're all about learning together! Bond with loved ones and friends as you embark on a collective journey of fashion exploration.

What to bring:

  • Fabric for your costume - upcycled is highly recommended but not essential
  • Any stuffing, foam, or carboard for structure that you might need
  • Embellishments if you want to use them
  • Your costume idea drawing - patterns are not neccesary as our team are great at creating without one!

What's Provided:

  • Assorted upcycled fabrics (in case you need a little extra)
  • Crafting materials (scissors, needles, thread, glue guns etc.)
  • Sewing machines
  • Inspiration and guidance from experienced instructors

Event Details:

  • Date and Time: Sun 24 March, 1:30pm-3pm. Arrive anytime from 1:15pm. Only 1 spot per person/duo, you cannot book both due to very limited spaces - we want to help as many people as we can!
  • NEW Location: Tinkd Makerspace, Basestation, 148 Durham Street, Tauranga. NOTE: The main building will be closed so you will need to come down the ramp to the right of the building and enter through the glass door on the side of the building. There will be signs to guide you.
  • Minimum Age: 8 years, no maximum age. Beginners and seasoned crafters welcome!

Why Join:

  • Sustainable Fashion: Make a statement by embracing eco-friendly practices.
  • Creative Expression: Showcase your individuality with a fungi costume that reflects your unique style.
  • Community Connection: Share the joy of crafting and bonding with like-minded individuals.
  • Learn all about fungi! Our team will teach you about the different parts of the mushroom as you create and why fungi are so important to our ecosystem.

Please note:

  • All children under 13 years of age must be accompanied by an adult - we are all about learning together!  You only need to book one spot to work together on the same costume.
  • Sewing machines will be available for use during this class but please understand that this is not a learn to sew class so basic sewing machine skills are required to use one. If you dont know how to then our helpful creative team would be happy to do the machine sewn parts for you.

Secure your spot now for a workshop that promises laughter, self-expression, and lots of fungi fun. Let your imagination soar and transform recycled fabrics into a costume that embodies the magic of the forest floor! 🌿🍄👗✨
