Fungi Talk with David Whyte: Unveiling the Mysteries of Mushrooms

Join us for an enlightening session with David Whyte, a dedicated member of the Fungal Network of New Zealand (FUNNZ) council. Explore the fascinating world of fungi, connect with fellow enthusiasts, and learn from David's wealth of knowledge as an amateur mycologist and passionate citizen scientist.

About David Whyte:

David, a trained scientist (biotech industry) turned amateur mycologist, has contributed significantly to fungal observations on inaturalist.nz with nearly 4000 recorded observations, including exotic and indigenous fungi. As a passionate educator, David believes in making learning fun and accessible to all. He has appeared on live TV and has done presentations around New Zealand on a range of fungi topics. David is an active participant of Mushroom Hunting NZ, a vibrant Facebook community with nearly 60,000 members, and is the collector of multiple new to Western Science indigenous fungi. 

About Davids Talk:

Interested to start your journey, or looking to upskill your abilities? This fungi talk is for you. Embark on an educational fungi journey where David will cover the two fundamentally different things fungi do in the ecosystem, then discuss the various ways one can attempt to obtain an ID, touching on important things like what makes a species. There will be some hands-on learning, finishing with a Q&A and light refreshments.
